FIRENZE THE RIGHT WAY 2.0 – Applying of peer education methodology to cultural heritage education

The activity starts from the awareness of the irreplaceable priority and value of the knowledge of a cultural asset, whose diffusion constitutes the essential prerequisite for being able to redesign a new idea of the city. The ambition and goal, therefore, is to combine knowledge with conservation for the enhancement and protection of Cultural Heritage as a means to regulate tourism flows evenly. At present, tourism flows are located only in some key areas of the historical centre of Florence, creating no minor problems for the protection of the monuments which are further put at risk by the lack of cultural awareness of visitors in these days of “wild” mass tourism. This condition has created, and continues to create today, many issues for the local city administration. The aim, in brief, is to educate – through the peer methodology of the HEROES Model - “young students and citizens” who can in the future be a great support for sustainable tourism. They can become the promoters for the protection of the beauty of the buildings, piazzas, and monuments of their own city. Specifically, the activities carried out by the classes from ITT MARCO POLO start from the analysis of masterpieces from the art history of Florence as a means of comparison to contemporary life.
